Egypt At The End of Denial: Week of 1-31-2011
David and I kicked off this week's show with a look at the GOP line up that just might throw their hats in the ring to replace the Not Me in the White House. It's not a very impressive crew and many of them won't show up at the starter's gate. Mike Pence, the latest Great White Hope ( like I said, he could double for Richard The Lionhearted in any Robin Hood sequel) has opted out. Everybody else seems like old news, so who's waiting in the wings?
Then it's off to Egypt at the end of denial. I've been going around for years warning those who would still listen that Egypt was on the brink and when that Humpty Dumpty went down, it could take the whole Middle East with it. Who would have thought ten years ago, that perhaps the seminal uprising of the 21st Century would be glued together by Facebook and Twitter?
David relates a story of performing on Whidbey Island to a receptive crowd of smart, friendly locals. It's the other side of worrying about people rioting on the other side of the world.
Then it's on to John Paulson, the hedge fund whiz, who was mixed up in some of the most toxic Wall St. deals. He got away with it so far, and in 2010 made 5 billion dollars doing it.
David raps up the show with a four part poem that, by my lights, is one of his best. I think one of the Tang poets is using him as a channel.
And, by the way, we made our $2000 fund goal thanks to your generous contributions. It will keep us on the air for the first quarter of the year. Only a small percentage of our regular podcastees came up with the bucks. Time for the rest of you to pitch in. It's going to be one hell of a year.
