The U. S. House of Garden Gnomes: Week of 3-21-2011
As David and I began our weekly conversation, the Japanese were upgrading their nuclear disaster from a 4 to a 5, putting it on a par with Three Mile Island. They were also racing against the atomic clock to cool down the melt down. David and I riff on their Plan B-burying the damaged reactors with concrete and sand. Will this become a 21st century tourist attraction - The Tomb Of The Unknown Reactor?
I read my latest A TO Z poem. Go on up to radiofreeoz.com and experience the illustrated version, thanks to the digital pen of Phil Fountain.
Then it's on to Mama Grizzly and the Half Man. A recent poll shows that voters across the political spectrum prefer Charlie Sheen over Sarah Palin for president. Ridiculous? I don't know. Charlie is as qualified as some of the other Republican bozos who are making noises about running. He's the heir to a political dynasty. Charlie's father was President of the United states for years on national TV.
On to the deficit and the shenanigans of the Garden Gnomes, voted into the House in November. There's a whole gaggle of irresponsible ignoramuses who are will to shut down the government if they don't get everything they want. They've happily painted themselves into an ideological corner, where they can merrily pull off their right wing circle jerk, while the federal government slips into disorder.
I read my latest blog, Get This One Party Started (available on the Radio Free Oz site) which chronicles the accelerating dissolution of the Republican Party.
David raps it up with the last of the Winter Series of his Old Man poems.
A note for our faithful listeners. We are only a couple of weeks away from the end of March, when we will need a new infusion of cash. It costs $200 to pay for the studio time, bandwidth and overhead necessary to put Radio Free Oz on the air. It's easy to contribute. Go on up to the Radio Free Oz site and give Newt a punch. Real easy, and thanks in advance.
