EYKIW: GOP ANKLES THE SWEET DEAL

Economists and political pundits with the sense they were born with take a look at the looney way the Congress is dealing with the unacceptable unemployment rate. It's at a record high among young people and vets, and it isn't going to go away until we start putting shovels in the ground and students in college.
The Republicans have the Democrats by the short hairs, and have done a good job of bullying them into trillions of dollars of cuts; and, then when the Dems talk about collecting some revenue-particulary from the super rich-the GOP leaves the room and calls off the deal. Are they idiots or oh so clever partisans who will let the debt ceiling fall down upon us if it means they can get that Not Me out of the White House come November next?
The right are a scurrilous lot.
"Let the rich keep whatever they've got.
It's unwise and unhealthy,
To badger the wealthy,
And make them pay tax on that yacht."
The last NASA rocket has blasted off taking with it the era when America took science and engineering seriously. We are dumbing down at a remarkable rate. Get this-18% of our citizens still think the sun travels around the earth. I refuse to lose hope, I'm sure it's around here somewhere.
