It's a sad commentary on the state of the present day GOP that any buzz at all should be raised by the rumor that Texas Governor Rick Perry might throw his ten gallon into the ring. The man is a total non-starter; just ask 96% of the Lone Star Republicans, recently polled on the issue. They don't want him to run, and they're the voters who know him best.

If Rick is the Snow White that the GOP are desperately seeking, then he put his White House dreams to sleep forever when he bit down on the poisoned secessionist apple. I can't imagine that anyone, save the party's hard core loonies, would support a man who honors the sesquicentennial of the Civil War by threatening to kick off its sequel.

He may not quality as Snow White, but Rick is perfectly qualified to replace his odious namesake from Pennsylvania and join the thoroughly unelectable Seven Dwarves, presently competing to carry the Republican banner in 2012. (For a moment there, I thought Ambassador Huntsman had a chance, until he embraced Paul Ryan's "Path To Oblivion")

The question is, how long can the GOP wait for their Prince or Princess Charming to come along and revive their presidential pretensions; or are their chances of ever reconstituting themselves as a viable, national party nothing but a fairy tale?
